Welcome to Southern California Asian Deaf Association

About Us

Who We Are

The mission of Southern California Asian Deaf Association is to encourage, empower, and explore cultural diversity and values, identities, and leadership for all Asian Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals in our community.

SCADA promotes Asian-American cultural awareness, diversity, and understanding for a growing population in Southern California (Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego, San Fernando Valley, etc.) of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals whose ancestry are traced back to Asian countries. Individuals are able to explore their self-identity as they learn more about their own culture.

History of SCADA

1997 – The first Asian Deaf Conference (ADC) was originally held in Los Angeles. The theme was “Let’s Break Down the Walls of Silence”, and the conference was a big success! The ADC committee received positive responses from the attendees, who expressed interest in finding out about upcoming Asian cultural events.

1999 – The committee set up a local chapter in Los Angeles named Los Angeles Asian Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Association (LADHA) in 1999.

2003 – LADHA changed its name to the Southern California Asian Deaf Association (SCADA). Our association changed its name to SCADA to better reflect the various locations our members lived throughout Southern California.
